‘Kindness Is Golden’ Backstage Volunteer Information & Signup

Thanks so much for your interest in being a backstage volunteer for our 2025 spring recital! Please read through the details of this role completely and return the signed portion to the WDA staff. Please note that for the safety of our dancers we only accept moms or female volunteers.

Our backstage volunteers will be responsible for the following:

Costume & Dressing Changes

Dancers will be arriving in their required undergarments and will likely need assistance getting dressed or with costume changes. Details such as helping with ballet shoe ties will also be needed.

Emergency ONLY Bathroom Breaks

Volunteers will need to assist with EMERGENCY ONLY bathroom breaks. We want to keep bathroom breaks to an absolute minimum and all little dancers will be instructed to go before.

Student Sign-Out After Show

Volunteers will need to help distribute dancers after the show. Parent/guardian signatures will be required for sign out.

Entertaining Little Ones Backstage

Our little dancers will likely need a bit of entertainment as they camp out during the show and intermission. Dancers can color, make necklaces, etc.

Keeping a Positive and Encouraging Attitude

Our backstage volunteers maintaining a positive and encouraging attiutude is so important! We never want our volunteers to act nervous or worried. Any issue that arrives can be handled! We must only choose to remain positive at all costs and only communicate how performing is FUN and never scary...so we don't even mention that! Our volunteers should remind dancers that they have practiced and prepared for this and to enjoy the moment!

General Rules for Backstage Volunteers

  • No additional siblings are allowed backstage. Parent volunteers must not have any other children backstage while volunteering.

  • Dancers are NOT allowed to visit family or go to the lobby during intermission.

  • Water for dancers will be available backstage. However, it must be remembered that the show is short and too much water for the little ones will create an unwanted potty party!

  • There shouldn't be any talking in the wings and always remember - if you can see the audience, the audience can see you!

  • Backstage volunteers will be required one hour before their show.

  • Backstage volunteers MUST remain backstage at ALL TIMES during the show they are volunteering for.
